Do you have major accomplishments you are proud of? …. most of mine will not be remembered by anyone other than myself… Doing family history research I have found that it is rare to find information beyond what is provided in archived records like census and bmd data. Rare… but when it does happen… soContinue reading “Accomplishments”

Mary Ann Burnett
My paternal great grandmother was born on this day in 1848 in Waterloo, in what is now Ontario … She was a twin, and one of ten children born to Samuel Burnett and Margaret Gerrie. She married Robert Law in April of 1873. They had nine children. Their son Alexander Hamilton Law was my grandfather.Continue reading “Mary Ann Burnett”
Thorny Questions
I’ve been so busy trying to find answers, I don’t seem to have time for much else. And, I never seem to catch up… there is always a new question to answer. My family tree now has more than 2,000 people in it, and often when Ancestry sends me hints I no longer know whoContinue reading “Thorny Questions”
DNA
I succumbed to the allure of DNA testing. I admit, curiosity is one of my failings. Or strengths, depending on your point of view. I wanted to know if there was any French in my veins. I also wanted to see if I could find any new information on a few tricksy people in myContinue reading “DNA”
Shipwrights Arms
Remember Mary Ann? She and her husband George William Hodge ran the above tavern for just over two decades in Ramsgate, Kent, England from 1850 when it opened to 1871, the year George died. The previous Shipwrights Arms in Ramsgate had been run by the Harlow family. It seems to have closed its doors inContinue reading “Shipwrights Arms”
Victor?
In family tree research, I am reminded, again, that just One record can change everything. A cascading effect … Auguste is not the man I seek. Victor is. Victor and Auguste Dutaillis arrive almost simultaneously in the United Kingdom about 1793: fleeing the chaos in France. Victor settles in London; Auguste in Edinburgh. My ancestorContinue reading “Victor?”
William Dutaillis
Auguste’s son… remember Auguste! I still dont know exactly where Auguste was born or where he died or who his parents were but I do know quite a bit about his 9 children … William is the eldest boy. I actually suspect he was adopted but cant prove it …. yet… He is my ancestor.Continue reading “William Dutaillis”
Mystery Man
I’ve come a long way in my search for answers about Monsieur Pierre Auguste Dutaillis… my greatx4 grandfather…. but so much of his life is still a mystery! Just this week I finally found the explanation to that particular mystery about him …. in the record book of Scottish marriages from 1751 to 1800 forContinue reading “Mystery Man”
Resolutions
A new year always seem to come with resolutions… This year I am endeavoring to master ancestry.com … Today was day one. I made quite a bit of progress on my family tree, and am exhausted. I have hopes to work on it a bit each day and by July 1, to have most ofContinue reading “Resolutions”
Family
For me, Christmas-time always brings “Family” to mind. This year, my thoughts have focused once more on Family History, more so than on presents and the annual family dinner, in part because this is my first Christmas without dad but mostly because there isn’t a family dinner or get together of any kind planned dueContinue reading “Family”
